Standard Summer Running Routes

NOTE - as the daylight hours are getting less there will be a transition period where we start with an 'off-road' route and finish with an 'on-road' route.  This will be made known on the night of the run.

For more detail consult OS Explorer Maps 258 and 268

Summer Route #1 : Knypersley Pool via Railway Lines ~7.0miles

Summer Route # 1 : Knypersley Pool via Railway Lines

Leave LC by back entrance path onto Moorland Road then join Lawton Street & proceed to main (A527) road. Turn L toward Biddulph continue to bottom of the town then turn right at the monument into Cross Street.  Proceed to the town bypass keeping Brammers  shop on left.  Continue along the bypass until the Roundabout. Cross the bypass at the crossings just after roundabout then turn into Wharf road heading toward the Railway line.  After about 250yds take the slip road up to the railway line.*  Turn Left along the lines heading  south toward Brown Lees.  Cross the road at Newpool continuing along the lines. Cross Brown Lees Road ( The Nelson PH is on your left) continuing along the lines for about 500 yds until a 'cross-road' is reached. Turn LEFT, proceed thru a gate to the main road ( A527 again).  Go straight over the main road, climbing the small hill to Bemersley Road. Almost opposite the junction is a stile * Go over the stile and follow path to Greenway Bank Road.  Turn left on this road and continue until the 1st entrance to Greenway Bank Country Park.  Enter the park and follow the path to the Serpentine Pool.  There is an option here to take the first right  after the two wooden latch gates or continue on the path following  the edge of the wood eventually doubling back. Both options meet at the west end of the Serp.  Follow the path around the Serp then around Knypersley Pool with a muster at the Stone Arch Bridge over the R.Trent *.  Take a left at the path immediately next to the Bridge keeping the old Warden's lodge to the left above.  Take the 1st path on the right signposted "Waterfall walk".  Continue to the waterfall ( about 450 yds ).  At the Waterfall go left over a footbridge climbing some wooden steps. Bear right at the top of the steps looking out after about 100yds for a path thru the woods to the right.  Follow the path until it meets a wider path then turn right, climbing slowly toward a gap in a wall.  Go thru the gap in the wall.  The path winds thru a woodland thicket then keeps to the left of a drystone wall for about 250 yds climbing steadily all the while until meeting a narrow single track road ( Lodge Barn Road).*  Turn right on Lodge Barn Road and continue for about 450yds to the junction of Park Lane.  Turn left and descend to within about 50 yds of the mini-roundabout - then take the greenway path to the right following this for 1/3 mile keeping the houses initially to the left then leaving the main estate following a tarmac road with wodds to the left for approx 1/3 mile until reaching a gate. Go over a style to the left of the gate & follow the path down thru the woods crossing a footbridge before a small climb.  The path eventually comes out on Thames Drive about a 1/3mile from BVLC.   Shorter routes shown in blue trace, mustering point with a * .
